Major tequila-maker Patron has partnered crystalware maker Lalique for their third collaboration ahead of National Tequila Day (24th July).

Titled Patron en Lalique: Serie 3, the tequila-maker pays homage to the core ingredient that makes tequila, tequila: the Blue Weber Agave plant.

No guesses that Lalique has thus created a crystal decanter in the shape of the Blue Weber Agave plant, containing 14 rare extra anejo tequilas, each aged for up to eight years in French and American oak casks. This has created a spirit that features notes of spices, dried fruits, Sherry wine and intense wood.

“Our familia of talented craftsmen are constantly experimenting to create bold innovations that stay true to the Patrón commitment to handcrafted perfection. We explored many combinations of extra añejo Tequilas before landing on the liquid excellence that can be found in Patrón en Lalique: Serie 3.”

– David Rodriguez, Patron Master Distiller

Each decanter is handmade and individually numbered, with a total of 299 bottles released globally priced at $7,500 USD and made available for purchase on NFT marketplace, Block Bar.

Previously, Patron has collaborated with Lalique in 2015 for an Art Nouveau-styled bottle and in 2017 for an Art Deco-styled bottle.

Our Take

Block Bar releases have been big, frequent and focused on high end bottlings - Ardbeg’s Fon Fhoid, Johnnie Walker’s Masters of Flavor, 1973 Glenfiddich Armagnac cask matured whisky, Hennessy 8 that comes with an estate tour, just to name a couple. Certainly no shortfall of big name collaborations, although some of these releases have drawn its fair share of skeptical eyes, Block Bar is still charging ahead. They’ve also just announced the launch of a 50 Year Old Karuizawa.

If you’re big into crypto, it seems like a good time to get into some of these releases, given that most of them can be purchased using cryptocurrency that has recently declined a fair bit to say the least.

For those outside the space, it does pose an intriguing proposition to see how all this pans out given what’s happened with crypto. Volatility is certainly assured ahead.
