Everyone's favourite little Irish bird is expanding its Iberian series which has seen several Spanish wine finished single pot still whiskies. From the now iconic Lustau to Tawny Port, Pedro Ximenez and the rarely seen Cuatro Barriles, we now have the Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition!
"Unique among the family, Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is a Single Pot Still Whiskey, triple distilled, initially matured in a combination of Bourbon Barrels and Oloroso Sherry Casks, before embarking on a final finish in Moscatel Seasoned Wine Casks from Bodegas Quitapenas based in the south of Spain."

Moscatel sits on the sweeter side of the wide and wondrous world of Spanish Sherry wines. It is naturally sweet and produced in a method similar to Pedro Ximenez (PX), and with at least 85% Moscatel de Alejandria grapes. It's typically harvested late with overripe fruit typically sundried for up to three weeks in order to raisinate and concentrate the fruit's sugars.
For the Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition, the Moscatel Wine Casks are as mentioned used as a finishing cask, with casks sourced from the South of Spain from Bodegas Quitapenas, which has a history extending to 1880, and which produces its wines under the Malaga and Sierras de Málaga denomination of origin.
The Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is bottled at 46% ABV, and is said to deliver aromas of fresh citrus fruits accompanied by notes of richly textured toffee and honeycomb.
