As Campbeltown legend Springbank began plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its sister Scotch brand, Kilkerran, the distillery began working out plans for a collaborative bottling with Scottish rock bank Travis, of whom had headlined Kilkerran's 20th anniversary celebrations.
Working with collective Caskade, Springbank is now releasing a 26 Year Old Springbank that was distilled in the same year of the band's famous album The Man Who, with the release timed to coincide with the launch of the band's latest album L.A. Times.
The 26 Year Old Springbank Single Malt was 100% aged in a refill Bourbon hogshead, and bottled at 53.5% ABV. The commemorative release is slated for 12 Noon BST, Wednesday 14th August 2024, with a total of 234 bottles up for sale via the Springbank website, at £1,250 (US$1,587).
This is the first time in Springbank's almost 200 year history that it has produced such a commemorative bottling.
Official Tasting Notes
Aroma: Soft peat smoke, honeycomb and tropical fruits on the nose, the introduction to this dram is characteristically bourbon matured Springbank.
Taste: Light and creamy on the palate, there are notes of fruit syrup, tinned peaches and honeydew melon, along with touches of woodspice and the continuation of the peat smoke influence.
Finish: There is a flint note in the finish and an ashy note reminiscent of campfire embers.
