After three years of running Drizly, which Uber acquired in 2021, Uber has announced that it will be shutting down the on-demand alcohol delivery service end of March 2024.
The drinks delivery platform was acquired for US$1.1bn, with Drizly continuing to run its own app and also being plugged into the Uber Eats platform. Drizly had been available in over 1,400 cities in the US and remains the leading on-demand alcohol marketplace.
Uber has nevertheless stated that its closure of Drizly is aligned to its aim of consolidating and focusing on a single Uber Eats app where customers can buy both food and alcohol through solely Uber's platform.
Uber has also highlighted that alcohol sales had showed strength on its platform, having doubled in sales over 2023.
