WhistlePig Beholden To New Super-Aged American Single Malt

American whisky brand WhistlePig has created a real cult following for its rye whisky, but is now ready to have us on our heels for its new "super-aged North American single malt" - The Beholden.

WhistlePig says that the 21 year old single malt is more than twice the age of its previous oldest release, and was matured in American oak ex-Bourbon casks for 21 years and then four more weeks in WhistlePig Rye casks.

Official Tasting Note

Aroma

Sweet fruit notes that leads into scents of cinnamon.

Taste

Golden raisin, graham cracker and black cherry.

Finish

Solid oak with maple and praline, and a hint of smoke on finish.

This Spring 2023 batch of WhistlePig's The Beholden is a single barrel bottling consisting of 18 barrels, bottled at 92 Proof (or 46% ABV). Each bottle comes with a label claiming that the single malt was distilled in "the first malt distillery in North America", which is suspected to be Glenora Distillery in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The new expression is currently available in select US retail outlets and also from the distillery's online store, here, priced at US$799.99.
