I [got] to taste @paparouyorhum’s Eritaj Batch 1, the first single cask produced by Guadeloupe’s newest distillery.
Its one year of aging might fool you into thinking that this rhum would be lacking in complexity, but I believe the cask preparation was perfect in this instance, where aging in the new French oak barrels with a heavy toasting for 320 days allowed just the right amount of smoky, vanilla, and chocolatey notes to develop, followed by 20 days of finishing in an ex-cognac barrel which allowed the distillate to develop a complex mix of orange peels and ripe red fruits. What an absolute joy it was to taste the Eritaj.
