#whiskyphTip. Great bottles under P3,000.
Before I really got into whisky, I thought that a P3,000 bottle of #whisky was expensive. I was so wrong. Whisky can be an expensive hobby and there are really expensive bottles out there. But in my view, the sweet spot for whisky prices in the Philippines is between P2,500 to P4,500.
At this price range you'll be able to buy great whiskies that punch way above their price.
Here are my top 3 recommended bottles for a budget of under P3,000.
First on my list is the whisky that started it all for me. The Laphroaig Quarter Cask is an amazing peat monster that retails for between P2,400-P2,850. A classic single malt #Laphroaig, it gives you a punch in the face of smoked fish and band aids. If you're able to give time to investigate underneath the top layers of peat reek, there's honey, oak, and fresh fruit in there too.
If you're the type to stay away from the peaty dram, then maybe a good #sherry whisky is right up your alley. The #Glenfarclas 105 gives you incredible value for money at P2,999 for a 1 Liter cask strength, 60% abv bottle. I like calling this a Denki Whisky. The high abv feels absolutely electric. Shocking, but in a good way. There's a lot to unpack in this single malt. Sweet syrup, spices, cherries, ginger and cashew nuts. Since the abv is so high you can level it down with as many drops of water you need for your liking.
Finally, let me end with a cracker of dram, the #Nikka From the Barrel. Priced upwards from P2,500 for every 500ml bottle, this is actually the priciest dram on my list, drop for drop. But the price is definitely worth it. This dram has elegance, depth and character. I like to think of this as a standard for what a good scotch should taste like. And yet this is not a scotch (and recently it can also no longer be called a Japanese whisky too). Blending whisky from #Yoichi, #Miyagikyo and #BenNevis distilleries, it is more on the sweet side with fresh fruits, cinnamon and ginger, and hardly any smoke.
Great whisky doesn't need to break the bank. Cheers!
