DuRhum Rum Reviews

Taste Testing Rhum Rhum Liberation 2015 (45%) vs. Liberation Integrale 2015 (58.4%)

The end of 2015 was marked by the arrival of the new rum from the Capovilla/Gargano duo, released from the barrels after 6 years of aging (still using Sauternes barrels). This time it is a 2009 vintage, 2015 representing (like the previous PMG rums) the date of "Liberation", and not that of distillation. An artisanal production, where the words passion and authenticity take on their full meaning. Journey to the land of Marie-Galantaise.

Liberation 2015 / 45° (reduced version)

6 years of aging, in its reduced version, still and always aged in barrels of a famous Sauternes château.

The color is amber and intense, tending towards mahogany, classy and brilliant.

On the nose, lots of candied and acrid fruits, as if mixed with oak powder, enhanced with vanilla, coconut, for a full and gourmet exoticism; We find in this new 2015 opus a nose of red fruits, grenadine; a very rich, very exotic and warm nose, seductive, with also mature cane, and citrus fruits (orange in the lead) so magnificently highlighted. The banana is green and its laugh joyful, the lemon also in its fine and refreshing skin like no other.

In the mouth, it goes down like a letter through the post, it is very soft (dilution requires) and so fine, but quickly the aromas begin to manifest themselves, with slogans against the dull life, strong with beautiful phrases for the exoticism and the warmth of the "they": the citrus responds to the banana, both green with so many beautiful letters; they now walk together, chained to each other, the yellow skin of the budding banana against the zest of the lemon always alert, and proud of its pre-pubescent complexion.

There is green in this glass, wild grass in this mouth, cane, its juice in the mouth, and on this tongue; a juice freshly released in a salutary delicacy, a long and greedy spurt, but with enough freshness to remind you - at the right time - that one more glass does not necessarily mean excess, but pleasure, and works elegantly towards prolongations, in a good sporting spirit, and in an idyllic prolongation in the favor of the angels.

Fresh, fruity, fine and delicate, the rum is only 6 years old but shines with a thousand hues, pastel colors and warm tones. It makes you travel, but so far, with pleasure and delight, in warm and refreshing sheets of redundant and grumbling exoticisms of pleasure. Note: 87.5. More affordable than the 2012, and even more rum.

in direct comparison with the 2012 reduced version:

The nose of the 2015 appears more airy and fruity, much more exotic than its counterpart from 2012, which is just as (or even more) expressive but to a different extent: more jammy, on marmalade, where the 2015 is more exotic and fine.
On the palate, the 2012 is oilier, but also more woody and spicy, more frank with more body, more aggressive on the palate, with an effect that is not sticky on the palate, but which coats. The 2015 continues on its more exotic register and offers an incredible freshness, with a much easier, supple and fine attack, and very refreshing citrus fruits (lime). Two complementary rums, two impressive finishes, it is difficult to choose just one. The 2012 still appears richer overall. But the 2015 is not without merit and its refreshing side is impressive. To put it simply, whether it is the 2010, 2012 or 2015, the pleasure is constant and the rum is of real quality. This 2015 appears slightly against the grain of the first two, in the sense that it is more refreshing and vegetal.

Liberation 2015 / 58.4° (full version)

The Full Proof version (cask strength).

The integral side transforms this rum from a simple bomb into a heavenly perfume, and the first scents already suggest a generous mouth. We cross a new threshold towards complexity and aromatic richness, with always these citrus fruits (orange, lime), these mature exotic fruits (candied) and flambéed (banana), nuts, and darker notes of leather. Very interesting because multi-directional, the rum takes you from one landscape to another with extreme ease, naturally. We find this vegetal side already present in the reduced version, which brings even more interest to the moment, to the tasting.

On the palate, it is fat and almost sticky, very rich on darker notes, of leather, liquorice, skillfully mixed with mature fruits (banana, apricot) submerged in freshly pressed canes. Very rich, the palate evolves in a very well orchestrated and tasted whole.

Lively but well balanced, sometimes fruity, sometimes vegetal, animal and even mineral; a few drops are enough to send you far away, to take you to a world where rum is still king and where it sparkles with a thousand lights. The finish is endless and seductive, and reminds you in the most beautiful ways of the raw material, and all the love needed to sublimate this stem. Note: 90

To help you (and me) find your way around, regarding the notes:

90 and + : exceptional and unique rum, it is the best of the best
between 85 and 89 : highly recommended rum, with that little something that makes the difference
between 80 and 84 : recommendable rum
75-79 POINTS : above average
70-74 POINTS : in the low average
less than 70 : not very good
