Here is a so-called "traditional" rum that comes to us from the heart of the Caribbean; it is distilled from molasses and comes from the blend of rums over 8 years old (minimum) aged in bourbon barrels. 

Upon opening, a sweet and honeyed scent of vanilla gives a glimpse of what's to come; it's round and delicious: we are immediately seduced before even pouring this precious nectar into a glass.

The color is gold with amber reflections, attractive and delicious too. We are far from the dark colors of some rums; here we are rather calm and the sun passes through the glass without any loss of heat or light.

On the nose we immediately notice vanilla, caramel (gourmet), coconut, notes of cocoa and dried fruits. It's sweet and we don't get tired of it for a second.

On the palate, the Angostura 1919 is very soft, almost mellow; it is a seductive rum, all round, with a vanilla flavor that bursts in the mouth, notes of honey and dried fruits (roasted hazelnuts). We also notice something exotic (fruits), coconut.

The finish is long and the aromas remain in the mouth after tasting, it is a stunning and very pleasant effect.

This is a bottle to recommend to anyone who would like to start tasting rums. It could easily be described as a 'classic', even if such a designation remains risky in a world as diverse as that of rum.

Add to that a more than reasonable price for an old rum, and you have an excellent tasting rum, a wonderful gift to offer, a rum to share and compare 🙂
