Distell's Amarula, famous for its African cream liqueurs specially using the marula fruit, is making a debut for its African Gin, which will kick off in Europe in September 2022, specifically finding its way to UK available on Amazon. As you might expect, the gin will specialise in using the marula fruit that the brand is famous for and is indigenous to Sub-Saharan Africa.
The marula is harvested, washed, destoned, pulped and cooled before being distilled into a fruit spirit. Other botanicals include juniper, orange peel, orange blossom and grains of paradise, which are then distilled into the fruit spirit.
According to the brand, tasting notes include "juniper, orange blossom, spicy grains of paradise, and sweet, tart marula fruit." or basically whatever went into the spirit, we suppose.

“We’re excited to encourage gin drinkers to taste something for the first time and try our refreshingly unique spirit as one of the characteristics of gin drinkers is adding to their repertoire and experiencing new flavours.
“We’re confident that gin drinkers will soon understand why elephants make their annual pilgrimage to enjoy the fruits of the marula harvest. And add our exotic gin to their Amazon baskets to try at home."
- Charmelle Conning, Amarula Global Brand Lead
