Ardbeg Launches Surprise Vintage_Y2K Follow Up with New 24 Year Old Amontillado Sherry Finish

Ardbeg is adding a second single malt expression to it's Vintage Y2K series, the Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 24 Year Old, this time finished in Amontillado Sherry casks in a first for the distillery.

Filled into casks in 2000 and initially matured in ex-Bourbon casks, this whisky began aging the same year that the Islay-based distillery, saved from closure in 1997, returned to full production. The release is a surprise follow-up to last year's Ardbeg's Vintage Y2K 23 Years Old, the first in the Vintage_Y2K series designed to celebrate the new millennium.

According to Dr Bill Lumsden MBE, Director of Whisky Creation at Ardbeg, the new expression will be "a sublimely delicate whisky. Sherried notes of toffee and nuts meet bonfire embers and coal tar soap, with an edge of menthol. A fitting celebration of Ardbeg’s rebirth.”

Bottled at 47.8% ABV, the Ardbeg Vintage_Y24 24 Years Old has an MSRP of £680 (US$927).
