Beyonce Pays Tribute To Great Grandfather With SirDavis Whisky With Alittle Help From Moet Hennessy

Here's a fact that we're sure would stump Beyonce fans - did you know the singer's great grandfather was a moonshiner in the American south during Prohibition?

Beyonce has therefore named her new American whiskey the SirDavis, in tribute to her great grandfather, Davis Hogue. According to Beyonce, Hogue would stash whiskey bottles in empty tree knots for his friends to be surprised by and for them to enjoy.

“I’ve always been drawn to the power and the confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,

SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy. In partnering with Moët Hennessy, we have crafted a delicious American whiskey that respects tradition but also empowers people to experience something new and unique in the category. You can taste it better than I could ever tell you – welcome, SirDavis.” said Beyonce.

But of course, when Beyonce's on tour, someone's gotta make the whiskey, and that's the folks at Moet Hennessy. With the help of Dr Bill Lumsden, who is in charge of Glenmorangie and Ardbeg distilleries in Scotland, the singer had met numerous times to bring the whiskey to life. A brand home will be opened in Houston in 2025 that will include a visitor centre.

Hey, that's Dr Bill Lumsden!

The SirDavis is therefore made from a 51% rye and 49% malted barley mashbill, and is bottled at 44% ABV. It is first aged in American oak barrels, after which it goes through a second maturation in PX Sherry casks. It's also non-chill-filtered and has no colouring added. The whiskey has been produced in collaboration with MGP Ingredients, and is finished, blended and bottled in Texas. This is the first time Moet Hennessy has custom produced a spirit from scratch in the US.
