Y'know what they say, 30 is the new 20!
And as Scotch makers continue to find new ways to differentiate themselves in a world now home to many new distilleries from countries that have never historically made whisky, perhaps then the only thing you can't beat or buy is time.
Consequently, we've started to see a bifurcation of Scotch where it comes to age, with the NAS trend staying well and alive, whilst at the same time, higher age statements have made their way into the core range of Scotch makers.
It then appears that everyone's beloved Highland distillery, Glenmorangie, is doing just that with what appears to be a new flagship 30 year old label, simply titled Glenmorangie The Thirty.
Nevertheless, Glenmorangie certainly is no stranger to releasing 30 year old expressions, previously having done so in the early 2000's, with various cask finished labels from 1970's vintages, sporting an Oloroso Cask Finish to a Malaga Cask Finish, and then along the way, this evolved to only be seen as part of several private cask bottlings.
Well, now it appears that a core range Glenmorangie 30 Years Old is back on the cards, and whilst we don't have too much information on it, we do know that it is due to be bottled at 43% ABV.
Kanpai!
