Irish Whiskey Green Spot Partners With Canadian Quail's Gate Winery With New Wine Finish

Midleton Distillery's Green Spot is releasing their third instalment of their Wine Geese Series, which celebrates Ireland's ties and contributions to the world of wine.

The series, which includes previous releases Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton and Green Spot Chateau Montelena, is now in its third rendition - the Green Spot Quails' Gate Pinot Noir Finish.

The new release draws on inspiration from two historic Irish households - the Mitchell and Stewart families.

"Green Spot was originally produced exclusively for the Mitchell family, who began their whiskey bonding business in 1887 in Dublin, transporting empty wine, Sherry and Port casks to the local Jameson Distillery.

Based in British Columbia, Quails’ Gate Winery was founded by the Stewart family in 1908 after Richard Stewart Senior immigrated to Canada from Kildare, Ireland."

The Green Spot Quails' Gate was initially matured in American oak and ex-Sherry casks, which were then further finished for 16 more months in Pinot Noir casks from Canada's Quails' Gate Winery.

Official Tasting Notes

Aroma

Vibrant oak fused with notes of ripe cherry and fresh, juicy raspberry, elevated by the wine seasoning, while balanced with the Green Spot’s signature aromas of apple and sweet pear. Earthy, woodland spices lend themselves to the deep and complex characteristics found interwoven amongst the sweet vanilla and red wine bouquet.

Taste

Silky and sweet mouthcoating texture at first, while the wine’s soft tannins gradually begin to show their presence. Notes of dried cranberries and red apple add to the expanding array of fruits in this wonderfully complex whiskey with clove spice and grated nutmeg balanced by the seasoned oak and crisp barley.

Finish

The toasted wood and pot still spices slowly fade, with the fruits and red wine seasoning taking the final bow.

The new expression is bottled at 46% ABV and is released in March 2023, with an RRP of US$80.
