Macallan has added a 7th edition of their Red Collection - a 77 Year Old expression.

The Red Collection was launched in 2022 and was created to celebrate the significance of the color to the Scotch's history. Notably the color holds its meaning from Alexander Reid, who founded The Macallan in 1824 and whose surname translated to "the red one" given his red hair.

Each release has seen spectacularly well-aged Macallan single malt expressions ranging from 40 Year Old to 78 Year Old.

Golden Oak

Aroma

A beautifully balanced blend of citrus fruits with hints of woodsmoke and antique oak open on the nose, perfectly paired with sweet notes of raisin and plump, chewy dates

Taste

Extremely rich and resinous, sumptuous baked custard, crystalised ginger, marmalade, and sticky treacle open on the palate, before moving into a medley of dried fruit.

Finish

Long with sweet woodsmoke, with the traditional flavour of Cherry Bakewell and the linger of tropical fruits.

ABV

43.2%

The new 77 Year Old expression dates back to 1945 and is bottled at 43.2% ABV, one of the brand's oldest bottling to date.

To celebrate its launch, Macallan has collaborated with Spanish painter Javi Aznarez to create a new animated film and a collection of illustrations that depicts the Red Collection "transcending from the past to the present, culminating in a moment of celebration at The Macallan Bar, located in the heart of The Macallan Distillery in Speyside, Scotland"

It is presented in an oak box crafted with the same European oak used in Macallan's whisky casks, it is then upholstered with red Scottish leather from Bridge of Weir Leather.

It is priced at a staggering RRP of US$87,000 and is available at the Macallan Estate Boutique, as well as travel retail outlets, from November 2022.
