The GlenAllachie Distillers Company has just unveiled The GlenAllachie 1990 35-Year-Old Cask Strength, an expression that makes use of four cask types: Mizunara virgin oak, American virgin oak, Oloroso sherry, and Pedro Ximénez sherry.
Created by master blender Billy Walker, the standout cask used in the making of this expression is made with Mizunara oak sourced from 200-year-old Japanese trees, and is known for imparting notes of coconut, pineapple, sandalwood, and Japanese incense.
The brand has said that the new expression should have a nose that presents notes of mocha, crystallized cinnamon, and treacle tart, followed by cocoa, toasted hazelnuts, pineapple, ginger, and heather honey.
The palate is said to delivers cocoa, baking spices, and chocolate-coated raisins, complemented by coconut, brandied orchard fruits, sandalwood, vanilla, dried red fruits, and honeycomb.
Scottish designer Kayley Barbour was also responsible for developing the packaging in-house. The bottle is presented in a Valchromat box housed within a bespoke wooden case inspired by Kumiko, the traditional Japanese woodworking art of assembling intricate patterns without nails.
The packaging features four distinct motifs on the box, each representing the casks used in the blend. The bottle also omits a traditional label in favor of elegant foil lettering, which the brand says help highlights the liquid's rich mahogany hue.
The GlenAllachie 1990 35-Year Old Cask Strength is bottled at 50.2% ABV, and is available now from The GlenAllachie Distillery, online, and via select UK retailers with an MSRP of $2,025 (£1,512.99).
Global availability will follow in the coming weeks.
