Famed Texas-based vodka brand Tito's has announced the purchase of a majority stake in Austin-based Lalo Tequila. Lalo Tequila was co-founded by Eduardo ‘Lalo’ González, David ‘R’ Carballido, and Jim McDermott in 2018, and is known for only producing blanco Tequila, crafted with fully matured Highland agave, deep well water from Jalisco and Champagne yeast.
With this acquisition, Lalo is said to benefit from Tito’s expanded distribution network and strategic sales support, building upon the brand's stellar growth in the US market thus far. Lalo doubled its size in 2024, reaching 155,000 case sales across all 50 states and landing in Nielsen's top 10 fastest-growing spirits in May last year. Its success has continued into 2025, with its Blanco tequila posting volume and value gains of 79% and 81% year-to-date, according to NielsenIQ channels.
'I've known the Lalo founders for a long time. They care about the juice. They keep it simple. They do things the right way, not the flashy way. That felt like home to us,” said Tito Beveridge, founder of Tito's Handmade Vodka.
González will retain control over Lalo's production after the deal closes, ensuring he can "carry on his family's legacy and the Tequila's integrity for generations to come." The transaction is expected to close in the near future, pending customary closing conditions and necessary regulatory approvals.
