Rum Writer Lance Surujbally "The Lone Caner" Lands In Singapore For A 3-Day Rum Series

Lance Surujbally, a well-known independent rum writer who publishes as The Lone Caner, is coming to Singapore for three days of tastings at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel, running from 19 to 21 June 2026. The series moves from a casual evening at the bar to an afternoon masterclass, and finishes with a Sunday lunch built for collectors, who are asked to bring their own bottles to the table.

Lance has been reviewing rum since around 2010, with numerous reviews logged over the years. He was also among the earlier writers to cover producers that have since become reference points in premium rum, and he tends to spend as much time on history and provenance as on what is in the glass.

The three days are pitched at different appetites. The opening evening on 19 June is a sit-down over one rum and a cocktail, with conversation rather than a formal programme. The following afternoon on 20 June turns more technical. Built around the theme "Key Rums of the World", it runs through three rums and a cocktail, with Lance talking through where each bottling sits in the wider story of the category. The theme borrows its name from his long-running essay series of the same title, in which he makes the case for the specific rums he thinks define the modern category.

The final day, a Sunday lunch on 21 June is a multi-course meal paired with two cocktails and a rum, limited to twelve seats, and guests are invited to bring their own bottles to open and assess together. The format puts the writer at the same table as the people who chase the bottles he writes about.

All three sessions are open to the public, and can be booked individually or as a three-day bundle through the official Capitol Kempinski Hotel website.
