Shizuoka's aim is to create whisky rooted in the local climate and in harmony with nature, as the distillery continuously seeks to incorporate the use of local materials, with releases that use Japanese malt. 

Shizuoka Distillery also houses salvaged pot stills from the legendary now-defunct Karuizawa distillery - nicknamed the Pot Still K, and also makes whisky from its signature wood-fire still - a whisky still heated by wood fire.
