Following the tease of a soon to be announced, new 1987 vintage Carta Nautica release from Macallan, that pays tribute to the transatlantic journeys of yore that were essential to ferrying casks from Spain to Scotland, Macallan appears to be releasing a wider market Carta Nautica expression (as has been the Scotch distillery's practice for limited releases of late) that is matured in Sherry seasoned American oak casks and ex-Bourbon casks.
The wider market Macallan Carta Nautica release is set to come in at 43% ABV.

"After years of careful maturation, The Macallan Carta Nautica has a sophisticated eccentricity, with an origin story that involves three cask journeys. The perfect selection of sherry seasoned American oak casks, alongside a combination of casks that previously held bourbon, some which curiously completed their maturation in sherry seasoned American oak. A rewarding, well-travelled triumvirate."
